On playing right field in slow-pitch softball
It's kind of like trying to convince yourself Santa really exists.
You spend the whole game -- every single pitch -- telling yourself "it can happen, it can happen" but you don't really believe it. When one is actually hit your way you're so stunned you don't know how to react.
I've actually been in this exact situation. It's sad really. Because I was so suprised that I didn't react in a timely manner and totally failed. It could have been my one shining moment, but instead is marked by a dumbfounded look on my face and me slowly running forward twith my glove outstretched.
